My View
At Ruth McLaughlin Artist’s Statement
The act of creation for an artist is a statement of visual thought and feeling, fine-tuned to the daily occurring events in the world. When all devolves into chaos, the expression of the artist is affected, and in times of great strife, artistic expression suffers a breach and is silenced. During the pandemic, I felt at an artistic loss and my art at that time was anxious and tight. In becoming comfortable with shelter-in-place, I looked to the natural world and found peace and inspiration. Some of my work in this exhibit was painted to seek comfort from that storm.
Now our world is engulfed in another storm, a tempest that is void of peace. I search for a path to mitigate the disquiet, to pacify, placate, and soothe our fear. Art is here, still active, aiding and expressing human dread….and hope.
I constantly am drawn to nature and the organic world. My art is a reflection of this interest and passion
Our Location
Ruth McLaughlin Art is located in Long Island City, which is the first stop in Queens on the E, M and F trains. This is a busy, rapidly gentrifying area with new buildings being constructed constantly, It has been exciting to see this area change from small and insignificant into a thriving, bustling location.
